PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Emergency shelters are scheduled to open across parts of the Florida Panhandle on Thursday, October 8, ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

The following locations and opening times have been announced. Times listed are Central.

Okaloosa County — Thursday at 6 p.m.

  • Davidson Middle School: 6261 Old Bethel Road, Crestview.
  • Northwest Florida State College Raider Arena: 100 E. College Boulevard, Niceville.

Davidson Middle School will accommodate the general population, people with special needs and pets. People seeking special needs shelter accommodations must register in advance. According to the county, animals will remain onsite, but owners will not be permitted to visit them during shelter operations. Okaloosa County

Walton County — Thursday at 8 a.m.

According to the WJHG shelter announcement, the shelter will open at:

  • Freeport High School: 12615 Business Highway 331, Freeport.

Only dogs and cats will be accepted. Owners should bring food, water, bowls, appropriately sized carriers or crates, and updated rabies vaccination records. Owners remain responsible for their pets’ care. Animal shelter staff will be onsite, but veterinary services will not be available.

Washington County — Thursday at 7 p.m.

According to the WJHG shelter announcement, shelters will open at:

  • Roulhac Middle School: 1535 Brickyard Road, Chipley.
  • WAVE special needs shelter: 934 Tiger Loop, Chipley.

Bay County — Shelter opening details pending

Bay District Schools has announced closures for Thursday and Friday, citing the likely opening of Deane Bozeman School as a storm shelter. That announcement does not confirm that the shelter is open or establish an opening time. wjhg.com
