Apply for Disaster Assistance
Federal disaster assistance is available to affected individuals in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Leon, Liberty, Taylor, Wakulla and Washington counties. Additional counties may be added later (see Declarations).
If you are in one of these counties, you will need the following to apply for assistance:
- Social Security Number;
- Daytime telephone number;
- Current mailing address and address and zip code of the damaged property; and
- Insurance information, if available.

Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program – The bridge loan program supports businesses impacted by hurricane michael by providing short-term, interest-free loans to small businesses that experienced physical or economic damage during the storm. The program bridges the gap between the time a major catastrophe hits and when a business has secured longer-term recovery resources, such as payments on insurance claims or federal disaster assistance.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance – The disaster unemployment assistance program provides assistance to businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a result of hurricane michael.
Disaster Dislocated Worker Program – Dislocated worker grants are awarded for temporary employment to workers affected by major dislocations, including natural disasters.
Disaster Recovery Centers
A Disaster Recovery Center or DRC is a readily accessible facility or mobile office where survivors may go for information about our programs or other disaster assistance programs, and to ask questions related to your case. Representatives from FDEM, FEMA, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), volunteer groups and other agencies are at the centers to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses. Mobile Registration Intake Centers
FEMA has deployed Mobile Communications Office Vehicles in the Individual Assistance designated counties to serve as Mobile Registration Intake Centers (MRICs) serving survivors until long-term Disaster Recovery Centers are identified. Individual Assistance specialists, Small Business Administration, FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance, and State Disaster Case Managers will be available at these centers. These centers will be temporarily at these locations and hours of operation will be 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. A map of MRICs is available here.

Blue Roof

Opertation Blue Roof is a priority mission managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The purpose of Operation Blue Roof is to provide homeowners in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover their damaged roofs until arrangements can be made for permanent repairs.
Operation Blue Roof is available to all counties approved for FEMA Individual Assistance. See Declarations above for a list of currently approved counties and check out the Operation Blue Roof website for updates.
Boil Water Notices
Florida Department of Health lists boil water notices. This list has been compiled from multiple sources, including press reports, utility data, and information from local authorities. Note, your utility or county emergency contact will have the latest and most up-to-date information.
Emergency Prescription Assistance Program
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has activated the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP) for those impacted by Hurricane Michael. Uninsured Floridians are eligible for no-cost replacements of critical medications lost or damaged during the storm.

Concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as “safe and well” by clicking on the “Search Registrants” button. The results of a successful search will display a loved one’s first name, last name and a brief message.

Florida Disaster Fund
To make a contribution, please visit www.FloridaDisasterFund.org or text DISASTER to 20222 to make a one-time donation of $10.
The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist Florida’s communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster. The fund is administered by the Volunteer Florida Foundation. Funds will support disaster relief organizations active in responding to and recovering from Hurricane Michael. In partnership with the public sector, private sector and other non-governmental organizations, the Florida Disaster Fund supports response and recovery activities. Donations to the Florida Disaster Fund are made to the Volunteer Florida Foundation, 501(c)(3) charitable organization and are tax deductible.

Register your interest in volunteering by completing this form. As Volunteer Florida partner organizations assess needs and evaluate resources, they will begin to organize volunteer opportunities for unaffiliated, spontaneous volunteers. State Assistance Information Line — 1-800-342-3557
The Florida State Assistance Information Line (SAIL) is a toll-free hotline activated at the time of an emergency to provide an additional resource for those in Florida to receive accurate and up-to-date information regarding an emergency or disaster situation impacting the State of Florida. SAIL is currently activated and available 24 hours/7 days a week.
School Closures
The Florida Department of Education is in contact with school districts, state colleges and universities for updates and to determine needs before, during and after emergency events. All school districts, colleges and universities are monitoring Hurricane Michael and collaborating with local emergency preparedness officials to make decisions that ensure student and staff safety.
School closures will be updated with information regarding closures as those announcements are made.
State Park Closures and Camper Assistance
For state park closures and re-openings, please visit Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Park Service Closures Information.
Additionally, Florida Park Service has opened areas to dry camp for self-contained rigs – usually parking lots without utility connections – at some state parks for evacuees on a first come, first served basis with waived overnight fees. Traffic
Florida 511 – Get up-to-the-minute, real-time traffic conditions and incident information for the State of Florida with Florida 511.
Florida Highway Patrol – Florida Highway Patrol Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report. Reports are updated every five minutes. Incidents located within city limits also may not show on the map since it is not common practice for FHP to work incidents inside city limits.
