Flounder Recreational Harvest Season Closes October 15
The flounder recreational harvest season in Florida closes on October 15 and remains closed through November 30, reopening on December 1. This closed season provides protection to flounder during pre-spawning aggregations, which is when large numbers of flounder gather together to spawn. During this time, flounder are more vulnerable to overfishing, so the closed season helps to ensure that more fish can reproduce each year.
Flounder are a popular recreational fish species in Florida, and the annual closed season is an important management tool to help sustain the population. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) regularly monitors flounder populations and adjusts the closed season as needed.
