Westbound Hathaway Bridge Overnight Closure Scheduled for October 24

Chipley, Fla. – The westbound span of the Hathaway Bridge (U.S. 98) in Bay County will be closed to all traffic from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 as workers perform internal maintenance on the bridge. Eastbound U.S. 98 traffic will not be affected.

Drivers will be detoured to State Road 388 during the closure. Variable message boards will be placed to alert drivers to the alternate route.

The closure is a cautionary measure intended to minimize the stresses on the bridge during maintenance activities. The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) number one priority is the safety of the traveling public and routine bridge
maintenance is one tool the department uses to provide a safe and efficient transportation system.

All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
