Boomer Bill Joins The Mix for National DJ Month

The Mix: Boomer Bill talks about his start as a radio DJ.

The Mix

June is national DJ month, and in honor of the DJs, disc jockeys, and hosts that bring great music to the radio, Boomer Bill joined The Mix as a special guest in the studio. Boomer Bill is a local DJ here in Panama City who hosts two shows on WKGC. Boomer Bill’s Rock and Roll Radio Hour which airs Monday through Friday from 10 am to 11 am and The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge, Friday night from 7 pm to 9 pm. 

We talked about his start in radio, how he was inspired to host a show to highlight 1960s music, and some of the artists that you can hear on each of the shows. He also teased his show which will be airing tonight (June 24th, 2022) from 7 pm to 9 pm, and some of the “Known and Unknown Drummers in Music.”

The Mix: The Boom teases The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge.

The Mix

Boom gave us an insight into the drummers of the 1960s, including Charlie Watts and Ringo, and some unknown facts about their backstory. We also talked about the differences between Rock and Roll Radio Hour and The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge. We listened to a cut titled, “Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man” from The Rolling Stones in which Charlie Watts was a drummer. 

The Mix: We talk more about unknown and known drummers for The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge.

The Mix

Boomer Bill talks about Ron Wilson, the unknown drummer who set the standards for drummers today. We talked about how the song “Wipe Out” from the Safaris was created, and what the drumming solo was based on.
