Corey Hall Joins The Mix

Segment 1: Corey Hall performs "The Orange Peel Hop."

The Mix

Local musician, Corey Hall, joined The Mix to perform some of his own music live in the WKGC studio. We got to discuss how Corey started as a musician, the reasons behind the folk-blues style of music he performs and writes about, and the stories behind the originals, “The Orange Peel Hop,” “Away From This,” and “Boy You Gonna Die.”

The first song that Corey played live is titled “The Orange Peel Hop,” and he said it was an ode to Mississippi John Hurt and that he is one of his favorite blues artists. The song has some mentions of Mississippi John Hurt’s songs, but Corey adds his own style to make it his own.

The Mix

Corey performs, “Away From This.” This was one of the first songs that Corey wrote alone as a musician, and over the years it has grown. Corey said that today it is how he envisioned the song when he first wrote it 10 years ago. You can hear more about the changes throughout the years in the segment above!

Psych Night

Another project that Corey hosts would be Psych Night! This event brings all original psychedelic surf and rock bands from all around the southeast! There will be many artists and vendors on-site as well. This coming up month’s event will be at the Taproom in Downtown St Andrews on March 18th, 6 pm to 10 pm.

Segment 3: Corey Hall Performs "Boy You Gonna Die."

The Mix

Corey performs the last song of the show titled,”Boy You Gonna Die.” The song is one he wrote after traveling out west. After taking time to travel and see the coast, Corey said it gave him the inspiration to write new music.
