Mexico Beach City Council votes to accept Bay County Sheriff’s Office Proposal

Mexico Beach, Florida – In a heated debate that was a special city council meeting called to address and discuss the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Proposal to take over law enforcement duties in the City of Mexico Beach, the city council voted 3-2 to accept the Bay County Sheriff’s proposal of taking over law enforcement duties.

The City will still have to vote to accept the final contract with Bay County Sheriff’s Department when the details are worked out.

The vote follows a motion by council member to give the Mexico Beach Police Department and city 6 months to correct the issues with Police Department. That motioned failed on a 2-3 vote.

At a previous meeting by the City Council a week earlier, the item was brought up for discussion by council with several citizens voicing there displeasure to dissolve the Mexico Beach Police Department. There was not motion and the item was just discussed.
