Magnitude 2.6 Earthquake in NW Florida

Panama City, Florida – A rare earthquake occurred in NW Florida, late Wednesday night near the town of Jay, Florida located in Santa Rosa County.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the magnitude 2.6 earthquake occurred late Wednesday night around 04:45:51 (UTC), which would be 10:45pm CST. The earthquake was recorded to have been near the surface, at a depth of 0.0km. There was now major damage or significant damage reported to local officials. 

The earthquake was strong enough to be recorded and was felt by resident in the area. Many residents have reported to the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program at the “Felt Report – Tell Us!” link.

Based on the reports submitted online, the earthquake was felt nearly up to 75 miles away in Alabama.
