AAA is encouraging Florida residents to review insurance coverage, protect their vehicles, and prepare for possible evacuation and power outages as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches.

In its October 2026 release, AAA — The Auto Club Group highlights steps residents can take before weather conditions worsen.

Check Your Insurance

Review your homeowners, renters, flood, and auto policies. Standard homeowners insurance typically does not cover flood damage, and hurricane deductibles may be calculated as a percentage of the home’s insured value.

Photograph or record your belongings, protect important documents in a waterproof container, and contact your insurance provider with questions about coverage.

Protect Your Home and Vehicle

Bring loose outdoor items indoors and park vehicles in a garage or on higher ground when possible.

Fuel gasoline vehicles and charge electric vehicles before potential outages. AAA recommends fueling early, purchasing only what you reasonably need, and avoiding topping off after the pump shuts off.

Plan for Travel and Power Outages

Monitor local emergency alerts and follow evacuation instructions from local officials. Share travel plans with family and allow extra time on the road.

Charge phones and portable batteries, gather flashlights and extra batteries, and make sure essential medications and medical supplies are available. Keep emergency contacts and important documents accessible without internet service.

Generators must be operated outdoors, away from windows and doors.

Avoid Flooded Roads

Never drive through floodwater. Water can conceal damaged pavement, debris, and downed utility lines. Turn around and find another route.

For storm conditions and evacuation information, continue following local emergency management officials.
