March Books of the Month

Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. Announces March Books of the Month

Tallahassee, FL Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. announced March’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools. Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books– one per selected grade range.

“In a world filled with endless distractions, it’s key that we prioritize reading,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “Reading is not just a pastime but an important tool for personal growth and development. Let’s make it a habit in our homes and show our children that reading together is one of the greatest gifts we can give them.”

The Commissioner’s recommendations for March 2024 are:

  • PreK  Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Curious George by H.A. Rey
  • K-2 – Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating
  • 3-5 – Buffalo Bird Girl: A Hidatsa Story by S.D. Nelson
  • 6-8 – Out of Hiding by Ruth Gruener
  • 9-12 – The Light in Hidden Places by Sharon Cameron
