Panama City Beach Cleanup Event

PCB Sponsoring Beach Cleanup Event March 30

Panama City Beach, FL– The City of Panama City Beach is hosting a beach cleanup event on a heavily populated area of the beach and is recruiting volunteers to assist.

The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 30 from 8 to 10 a.m. and is being led by the Fire Rescue Beach Safety team. Participants may park for free in the City’s Churchwell parking lot just north of Front Beach Road.

The area being cleaned is from Beach Access 36 to Pineapple Willy’s. Lifeguards will have trash bags and gloves for volunteers to use and will be up and down the beach on all-terrain vehicles, picking up full trash bags and assisting volunteers.

Trash will be collected in a trailer in the Churchwell parking lot.

Any residents and visitors who wish to participate can clean any section of this area of the beach.

“We recognize there may be residents living or guests staying in those condos in that area who want to help,” said Public Works Director Susan Goebel-Canning. “There may be people who just want to walk outside their condo and pick up trash in that area. Whatever works best for them. The lifeguards will have bags with them.”

Beach safety director Daryl Paul said the event is a great outreach project for the lifeguards.

“We always want to be accessible to the community,” Paul said. “This enables us to interact with the community we serve, while minimizing water pollution, eliminating dangers to our sea life and shore birds, all while learning about rip currents and beach safety.”

The cleanup will be an annual event and could grow into several events during the year.

“Protecting the world’s most beautiful beaches is in everyone’s best interest,” said Goebel-Canning. “It is good stewardship and something we always want to do.”

Free parking in the Churchwell lot is from 7 a.m. to noon only.

City officials are asking volunteers to RSVP for the cleanup. Participants can join the event on the City’s Facebook page, Panama City Beach-Government, or RSVP to Debbie.ingram@pcbfl.gov.
