Panama City, FL – Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) is proudly basking in the title of Florida’s first Collegiate Purple Star Campus. This prestigious designation, awarded by the state legislature in 2023, recognizes the college’s unwavering dedication to supporting military students and their families.

“Being acknowledged as a Collegiate Purple Star Campus is a major point of pride for our institution,” said GCSC President Glen McDonald. “It’s a testament to our ongoing commitment to creating an educational environment that values and empowers those who have served our nation and their loved ones.”

GCSC’s achievement shines even brighter considering it secured the honor ahead of all other state colleges. This pioneering spirit further underscores the college’s unwavering support for the military community.

To earn the Purple Star designation, GCSC met all the criteria set by the state, including:

Appointing a dedicated military liaison
Maintaining a comprehensive military webpage
Offering a student-led transition program for military newcomers
Providing professional development for staff on military student-related issues
Granting priority registration for military students and families

GCSC’s commitment extends beyond the confines of the college. President McDonald noted that nearly half of Bay District Schools also hold the Purple Star designation, demonstrating a unified effort to support military families across the community.
