Bye Felicia! 4 Buzzkill Trends We’re Leaving in 2023

Overrated Trends from 2023 We Are Tired Of

2023, you were a rollercoaster. Sure, we had our dopamine hits – Wordle streaks, surprise reunions, and that inflatable couch everyone went nuts for. But let’s be real, some trends wore out their welcome faster than a fruit fly at a banana stand. Let’s raise a glass (of something refreshing, non-pumpkin spice flavored, please) to these buzzkills we’re saying “buh-bye” to in 2024:

1. The Elon-gation of Everything: From rockets to robots, tunnels to Twitter tantrums, the name Elon Musk seemed to be everywhere in 2023. We get it, the guy’s a tech titan with a penchant for pronouncements. But like that housemate who won’t stop monologuing about their cryptocurrency, sometimes you just gotta tune out the Elon-splaining and find some peace and quiet.

2. Zoombie Meetings of the Undead: Remember when Zoom was the coolest thing since sliced avocado toast? Yeah, those days are about as over as dial-up internet. Sure, virtual meetings have their place, but endless, soul-sucking video calls became the office water cooler’s unwanted stepchild in 2023. In 2024, we’re trading in the pixelated purgatory for real-life human interaction, even if it means braving rush hour traffic and slightly awkward silences.

3. Cargo Cult Chic: Let’s be honest, cargo shorts haven’t been stylish since, well, ever. Yet, in 2023, they somehow staged a fashion coup, popping up on dads at playgrounds, CEOs in boardrooms, and everyone in between. We’re not sure what the appeal was – the endless pockets for questionable collections of receipts? The breezy comfort that comes from basically wearing pajamas in public? Whatever it was, it’s time to relegate cargo shorts to the deepest, darkest abyss of our closets, alongside those acid-wash jeans and neon leg warmers of yesteryear.

4. Billionaire Space Cowboys: Sure, it’s impressive that a bunch of ultra-wealthy individuals are blasting themselves into the cosmos. But while they’re playing zero-gravity limbo among the stars, the rest of us are stuck down here grappling with rising costs, climate anxiety, and that nagging feeling that maybe, just maybe, their billions could be better spent solving problems on Earth. So, in 2024, we’re cheering on the real heroes – the scientists, the activists, the everyday people who are making a difference right here, right now.

So, here’s to 2024, a year where we ditch the overhyped trends, embrace the weird and wonderful, and focus on what truly matters. Cheers to less Elon, more human connection, and maybe just a sprinkle of inflatable furniture – because hey, sometimes a little silliness is the best antidote to a world gone mad.
