One Generation Away to hold food distribution at St. Dominic

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — One Generation Away and St. Dominic Catholic Church will hold a food distribution for individuals and families in need on Saturday, Aug. 12.

This is a free, no-questions-asked event. Anyone in need of food for the week can come and receive fresh, high-quality produce, dairy, and packaged goods with no registration necessary.

One Generation Away has been operating a mobile food pantry in Panama City since Hurricane Irma ravaged the city in 2017.

“After the hurricane, a large percentage of the population left Panama City, but there are still people there rebuilding their lives,” said Chris Whitney, the founder and executive director of One Generation Away. “Something we hear all the time at our distributions is, ‘Thank you for not forgetting about us.’ We want Panama City to know that we see them, and they’re not forgotten.”

This drive-thru distribution event will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. at Lynn Haven UMC (3203 Minnesota Ave), and those coming to receive are encouraged to come early, as it will be first come, first served.

These events are great volunteer opportunities for the whole family. Volunteers will help sort food, load groceries into cars, and (if they are comfortable) pray with individuals and families. Depending on the job, volunteers will work from 6-11 a.m. Sign up for a volunteer job at bit.ly/pcfeb12.
