New Gulf Coast President Aims for Student-Focused Growth

Gulf Coast State College in Panama City ushered in a new era as Glen McDonald officially assumed the role of President on Tuesday. McDonald’s appointment comes after Cheryl Flax-Hyman, who served as interim president since the spring of 2022, stepped down.

With a clear vision for the college’s future, President McDonald has set ambitious goals for his tenure, placing particular emphasis on the growth and development of the institution. Among his key objectives are expanding the faculty and staff, bolstering educational resources, and strengthening collaborative ties with Bay, Gulf, and Franklin County communities.

Nonetheless, McDonald’s foremost priority lies with the students.

“I’m truly eager to prioritize the needs of our students and ensure that their journey at Gulf Coast is enriching and rewarding,” remarked McDonald. “From the moment they apply to the day they graduate, my aim is to streamline the process and provide seamless support every step of the way.”

President McDonald seeks to establish a strong presence within the college, assuring students, parents, and faculty that he will be an accessible and valuable resource for the entire campus community.

As the new academic year approaches, the Gulf Coast State College community is optimistic about the positive changes that President McDonald’s leadership will bring. With his dedication to student success and commitment to institutional growth, a promising future awaits Gulf Coast State College under his stewardship.
