JULY ART EXHIBITS AT THE BAY COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
(PANAMA CITY, FL) – Two local artists, Denise Nyland and David C. Williams are featured at the Bay County Public Library throughout the month of July. Both exhibits fit the library’s Summer Reading theme of “Oceans of Possibilities” highlighting marine life.
In the Adult Services gallery space, visit the educational poster series illustrated by Denise Nyland. There are seven pieces in total including the Hammerhead Shark, Great White Shark, Blacktip Shark, Thresher Shark, Tiger Shark, Green Turtle, and Hawksbill Turtle. Each poster includes field identification, what they eat, what eats them, and facts about conservation. The surprising medium used in painting the designs is the addition of coffee!
In the Youth Services gallery space, visit the work of sculptural copper artist, David C. Williams. Williams was a former NASCAR crew chief and stock car fabricator. He uses his metal fabrication skills to create impressive artworks. David draws his design on the back of a piece of copper, then uses electric and manual shears to follow the design. Building depth into the piece, he uses a bead roller, hammers it out, tempers it with a torch, and finishes his art with clear lacquer. He also uses aluminum so he can adjust colors to each piece and adds startling glass eyes to his sea creatures. The library exhibit includes dolphins, fish, and palm trees.
The Bay County Public Library is located at 898 W. 11th Street, Panama City, FL. For more information about library programming and services, visit www.nwrls.com or call the library at 850-522-2100. Library hours are Monday – Wednesday (9 am – 7 pm) and Thursday – Saturday (9 am – 5 pm).
