Artist Interview: Xavier Wynn

The Mix

Xavier Wynn joined The Mix to talk about the exhibit Collaboration and the process behind the work, HEADS. Xavier and his wife Edwige Massart worked together to create works of art from found objects, memories, and a fascination with medical imagery. In our interview, Xavier says that a lot of the pieces seen in the HEADS exhibit were collections from Edwige over the years.

HEADS

Website: https://www.emnxw.com/

“The HEADS are a collection of surrealist portraits created from found objects, memories, and a fascination with medical imagery.

The impetus for each story begins with found objects. They drive the plot, conflict, and theme. Each found object tells its own individual story, and when put together, they resonate into a larger tale.

A fascination with medical images creates character and setting. The hidden inner workings of our bodies and minds; the guts, pieces, and parts that lie just below our skin—become the paper, binding, and cover for each story.

And while each Head has told its story to us—whispering their woes and screaming about their trials and expressing pride about their achievements—you never know what they might have to say to you … so please enjoy.”
