GCSC Student Wins 2021 Round of Media Technology and Innovation Award

“Panama City, FL – Gulf Coast State College student, Sophie Theiss, has been chosen as a recipient of this year’s annual media technology and innovation scholarships. “PILOT, an innovation initiative of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), has announced this year’s recipients of its annual media technology and innovation scholarships. The awards, valued at $2,500 each, will be presented to four college students—two undergraduate and two graduates—for the pursuit of studies related to broadcast or media technology and innovation. The scholarship program was launched in 2019 and is administered in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).”

“BEA and PILOT’s partnership is dedicated to supporting the next generation of media innovators, and these scholarships will further our mission of fostering future leaders shaping broadcast radio and television,” said BEA Executive Director Heather Birks. “BEA is delighted to help these talented students who have excelled inside and outside the classroom.”

GCSC’s Coordinator of Digital Media, Dr. Erika Goines, stated, “Sophie is a hardworking and dedicated student. Between her work for the main FM radio station, leadership position within student activities and involvement with the Center for Student Media, she strives to create the best product she can both professionally and academically. She is the definition of the type of student for which the PILOT Awards were created. As she continues her education, she will surely become a leader helping to shape the future of media technology.”
